Portrait painter and calligrapher. Part of the 1914 Generation, he studied in Paris with Cormon and Jean-Paul Laurens, and painted many portraits of the Republic's founding generation. His attachment to calligraphy continues in the handling of letter and surface in his painting. He left his house and collection to Istanbul University.
