The painter of Üsküdar. He worked the streets, wooden houses and shorelines of the district where he lived his whole life, over and over, in pencil and watercolour. He taught drawing in military schools for many years, which is where the title Hoca — teacher — comes from. His small, rapid, observation-led studies are among the earliest systematic examples of open-air work in Turkish painting.
