One of the painters who gave the 1914 Generation its name — the group is sometimes called the Çallı Generation. He worked in Cormon's studio in Paris and brought the light of impressionism into Turkish painting on his return. He taught at the Academy for many years, and was among the most prolific painters of his era in portraits, nudes and views of Istanbul.
